Marketing means different things to different people. Some think marketing is advertising… but it is much more than that. In fact, advertising makes up just one piece of one of the five major components of marketing. It is one aspect of promotion that includes direct mail, internet promotion, networking, public relations … you get the picture.
Media advertising isn’t right for every business — but it is ideal for others. In addition, marketing is NOT selling. These are two very different disciplines that are often done by the same person, especially solo-preneurs (those who are in business with a small or no staff). Marketing creates the traffic — the interest — so that the product or service can be sold. Marketing can be complicated, but it has been my career, my calling, my passion for over 30 years.
